GTA 6's Theme Song Has Appeared Online Ahead Of Trailer 3
One of the main theme songs for Grand Theft Auto 6 may have leaked online ahead of its release. We're now just four months out from GTA 6's release, and speculation about the hotly anticipated title hasn't slowed. If anything it's ramped up, with fans exploring new avenues for information while we all anxiously await trailer 3.
One such fan, while searching for actors who could appear in GTA 6, discovered something else: an artist who claimed to have partnered with Rockstar Games to create the theme song for GTA 6. Nothing's fully verified yet, but if it does turn out to be true, it certainly sounds like a good fit.
iGrandTheftAuto.com on X (formerly Twitter) says that, while searching for actors who could be involved in GTA 6 on casting websites, they came across the profile of Trace Austin, a recording artist. Austin's profile on Project Casting claims that he's "partnered with Rockstar Games for Grand Theft Auto VI, where his rendition of 'Papa Was a Rolling Stone' will be one of the main theme songs." This claim is replicated on Austin's LinkedIn page.
"Papa Was A Rollin' Stone," as its title is often rendered, was originally recorded by Motown act The Undisputed Truth in 1972. It became better known worldwide after The Temptations released their Grammy Award-winning cover later that year. Austin, a grandson of Temptations founding member Otis Williams, now says his cover of the song will appear prominently in GTA 6.
It wouldn't be out of character for the franchise: GTA has always expressed an interest in the classics, at least where music is concerned. Its first trailer featured Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road," while trailer 2 was scored with The Pointer Sisters' "Hot Together." A little Motown would really be the natural evolution for the final game.
As for what this implies about GTA 6's story, it's hard to say with complete certainty, but "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" has some thematic heft to it. Its lyrics follow a mother telling her son about his deadbeat father, describing his lying, stealing, and grifting as he drifted from place to place.
That all fits right in with common subject matter for the series, which frequently stars itinerant criminals desperate to make a buck by any means necessary. We'll have to wait and see how it all shakes out, but it's undeniable that Trace Austin's cover of "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" would make an appropriate theme song for Grand Theft Auto 6.
