Elder Scrolls 6 2027 launch seemingly locked-in as development update gets uncovered

The Elder Scrolls VI may have had its launch window narrowed down and it’s all thanks to Starfield of all things.
Bethesda has been in a pretty tough spot recently and yet the future looks bright. Though perhaps that’s just the optimist in us talking.
Fallout 76 and Starfield weren’t the runaway successes the studio probably had planned, so now it’s up to The Elder Scrolls VI and those Fallout remasters to save the day.
Very few official updates on the next Elder Scrolls game have been shared, though fans are now convinced of its release date after some detective work.
Elder Scrolls 6 devs inadvertently hint at development and launch window
Over on Reddit, the home of tinfoil hat theories, u/Familiar-Figure-5692 claimed to have cracked the code when it comes to a launch date for the game.
Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI is in full-on development, but u/Familiar-Figure-5692 believes this only started back in 2024, after the release of Starfield: Shattered Space.
“The majority of [Bethesda devs] have title updates in 2024. This coincides with the release of Shattered Space for Starfield. I believe we can surmise that the Elder Scrolls 6 full development started here.”
However, the theory doesn’t stop there. It’s been surmised from past launches like Fallout 4, that Bethesda typically starts full-scale development on a game two years after the prior one releases, assuming that it has post-launch support plans of course.
This has been true for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which got one last DLC expansion in 2012 before development on Fallout 4 kicked off, and work on Starfield began the same year Fallout 4 was completed.
Obviously take all of this with a pinch of salt, but it lines up with what we know and have seen from Bethesda in the past.
That said, The Elder Scrolls VI is allegedly going to be massive. Would a mere three year development cycle really be enough for a game as important as that?
It also begs the question as to why on Earth Bethesda revealed The Elder Scrolls VI so far in advance, with that initial reveal trailer dropping in 2018.
Will The Elder Scrolls 6 be an Xbox-exclusive?
The other question on our minds is what platforms The Elder Scrolls VI will launch on. If Bethesda is truly targeting a 2027 launch, Xbox has plenty of time to be selfish with its new IP.
Under Phil Spencer, a PlayStation 5 port of Starfield was developed as Xbox was keen to share its games across all platforms, but times have changed since Asha Sharma came aboard.
Now that Xbox is once again willing to compete with exclusives, the obvious move would be to make the next Elder Scrolls game specifically for Xbox and PC, especially with Project Helix on the way. It’d make a killer launch title if it’s ready by then.
There’s still a lot of uncertainty surrounding The Elder Scrolls VI, and again take the above theory with a pinch of salt, as it’s just mere speculation at this point.
That said, we’d love it to be true and if it’s anywhere close to correct we might finally see another teaser trailer by the end of the year, or at least the start of 2027.
