Star Wars Gets A Harry Potter Twist In New Series That’s Only 1 Year Away

Star Wars is fluctuating fairly rapidly lately in terms of how each of its projects are being received, as well as how diverse these projects all are, between TV shows like Andor: A Star Wars Story or Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord, video games like Star Wars Outlaws or Star Wars Zero Company, and movies like Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu or Star Wars: Starfighter. A dedicated effort toward children-friendly Star Wars comic books has been made via Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu - Danger in the Dark and its upcoming one-shot sequel, Nightmare on Nevarro, which was recently announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.

It’s become a seesaw that teeters one way until a new entry comes out to swing it the other way, which makes tuning into every new installment that much more fun, subsequent to the poorly received Star Wars sequel trilogy. Now, a brand-new comic series has been announced, demonstrating that Star Wars is willing to leaf through Harry Potter’s books and tear out a page or two.

Announced at SDCC 2026, Star Wars: X-Wing Academy is an upcoming comic series for Mad Cave’s Papercutz imprint from Phineas and Ferb’s Scott Peterson and Joshua Pruett and artist Craig Rousseau. Some concept art was revealed, alongside a release window of 2027, but perhaps the most significant takeaway from this announcement was Star Wars: X-Wing Academy being described as “the Hogwarts of Star Wars.”

Nearly 30 years later, Harry Potter’s stalwart fandom has endured as long and as fervently as it has due to being so unique and endearing in its core conceit: a marriage of breathtaking witchcraft/wizardry and the extraordinary yet relatable experiences of children learning who they are and engaging socially at school. If Star Wars: X-Wing Academy is even half as charming as any of the earlier Harry Potter novels and movies, it’ll be a treat.

It should be astonishing to see Star Wars’ galaxy-spanning sci-fi wonder with a pinch of Harry Potter’s endearing schooling formula. While The Mandalorian & Grogu might only appeal to anyone who thinks Mando is cool or that “Baby Yoda” is cute, Star Wars: X-Wing Academy is brilliant for casting a wider net. Featuring students at a fighter pilot school that is supposedly akin to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry could result in quite a special storytelling format.

Plus, like Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu - Danger in the Dark and Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu - Nightmare on Nevarro, Star Wars: X-Wing Academy will have strong Star Wars movie synergy of its own, considering that Star Wars: Starfighter is ‘coincidentally’ releasing in theaters next year, let alone HBO’s Harry Potter TV series reboot releasing this Christmas.

Star Wars’ Future Is As Bright As A Lightsaber Blade

It’s unknown if Star Wars’ Mandalorian and Grogu movie has performed well enough for sequels to be explored, but Papercutz’ Mandalorian and Grogu comic prequels are more than capable of filling that niche for anyone who can’t get enough of Din Djarin’s Mandalorian and Grogu’s “Baby Yoda” nonetheless. These Mandalorian and Grogu comics, as well as Star Wars: X-Wing Academy, are remnants of an era prior to the sequel trilogy, but the future of the Star Wars franchise overall isn’t looking nearly as drab as it was a little while ago, either.

Star Wars: X-Wing Academy is scheduled to be released in 2027.
