James Marsden & Apple TV Extend 4-Year Partnership Streak With New Comedy Adaptation
James Marsden and Apple TV have just teamed up once more.
Marsden got his start in the world of TV with shows like The Nanny, Party of Five, and Second Noah, before getting his big break in 2000 with the role of Cyclops in X-Men. Since this seminal superhero film, Marsden has remained a regular presence on the big screen and small screen, including a stint on Apple TV's Your Friends and Neighbors season 2.
Now, per Deadline, Marsden will executive produce and star in an upcoming comedy series called Bad News Dads for Apple TV. The series hails from creator Stephen Falk, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television. The series is based on an upcoming novel of the same name by Adam Frost, which hits shelves on April 6, 2027.
Bad News Dads mixes comedy with the mystery genre, following an "inept men’s baseball rec league team where one of the players’ wives dies in a suspicious accident, and the friendship-starved Ben (Marsden) leads two of his teammates in an impromptu and often misguided investigation into what they increasingly come to think was murder." Despite the title similarity to Bad News Bears, the novel and series have no connection to Bad News Bears.
For Marsden, Bad News Dads will mark his third collaboration with Apple TV. Following his appearance in Your Friends and Neighbors' sophomore outing, it was announced that Marsden will lead the cast of Disavowed, an action-thriller series about Marsden's Brad Griffin, a CIA case officer who decides to chase a $15 million bounty on an assassin after being fired.
Neither Disavowed nor Bad News Dads have premiere dates set at Apple TV just yet, but the shows come amidst a busy time for Marsden. The actor was nominated for an Emmy for his role as President Cal Bradford in Paradise. Marsden was recently spotted on set on Paradise season 3, confirming he will be back for the show's final outing.
Of course, Marsden's most anticipated upcoming project is probably Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters later this year on December 18. The film will feature Marsden reprising his role as Cyclops/ Scott Summers, alongside other original X-Men actors Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming.
More to come...
