This 67-hour-long learning path from The Gnomon Workshop will teach you how to tame your shaders, make complex custom materials, set up lighting for a lookdev scene, and more.
With the Texturing and Materials learning path from The Gnomon Workshop, you will grow your look development skills across several crucial industry-standard tools, including Maya, Substance 3D, Houdini, Marmoset Toolbag, and Unreal Engine. The path is a perfect choice for ambitious beginners and advanced artists who want to dig deeper into materials and textures.
Over the course of 67.5 hours, you will learn the art of making your props, characters, and environments truly shine through various look development tools and techniques. The learning path consists of 12 workshops by film, animation, and game-art veterans, including DNEG's Build Technical Supervisor Peter Aversten, Giant Skull's Lead Environment Artist Nick Reynolds, and Amazon's Senior Design Technologist Brent Le Blanc.
The first workshop is dedicated to creating hero assets for film and TV using Mari. After that, you'll learn how to do fantasy creature texturing and lookdev to create lifelike skin and fur. In the next two workshops, you'll master material texturing for production in Mari and Maya as well as procedural shading for Houdini and Arnold.
Next, you'll dive deep into shading and texturing with Maya and Substance 3D Painter and go straight to studying Unreal Engine's material system, followed by a workshop on game materials in Substance 3D Designer. Then, with a 7.5-hour set of lessons on creating props for games, you'll apply your new skills right away. After that, you'll learn lookdev techniques in Houdini and create realistic materials in Substance 3D Designer. Lastly, to combine all your new skills, you'll get to creating complex patterns.
You can get access to all 12 workshops in the learning path through a subscription. With a monthly subscription, you pay $57/month and get access to all of Gnomon's workshops and the downloadable project files included in them.
