Boundless & Interactive Fluid Simulation In VRChat World

It also includes a manipulator system, gravity settings, and more.

Mykhailo Moroz, Lead Research Engineer at ZibraAI and a big fan of all kinds of physics simulations, has been experimenting with implementing fluid simulation in VRChat lately. His latest iteration uses a hash-grid-based approach, which basically makes the simulation boundless: the fluid can potentially fill the entire world. And let's not think too hard about what VRChat users might want to do with that.

The simulation runs locally, it isn't synced between players, but it looks similar enough on everyone's end. According to Mykhailo, performance depends on the particle count, with around 100K particles being doable on pretty much any PC. He eventually plans to release the world, but there's still plenty of work to do before it's ready.

You can even play around with things like gravity, viscosity, and other properties to change how the fluid behaves:

The developer also shared a few research papers he used: click here, here, and here.

Below, you can see how the project came together:

Previously, Mykhailo launched VRCGS, which turns 3DGS into content ready to use in VRChat worlds:

If you'd like to add some liquid to your VRChat avatar already, check out these two shaders:
