Bloodborne has finally received the impressive graphics and FPS boost it deserves

Bloodborne has received another impressive upgrade on PC, enough that fans are now able to enjoy improved graphics and significantly higher frame rates thanks to the work of dedicated modders.

Despite launching over 11 years ago, FromSoftware's beloved gothic action RPG remains exclusive to PlayStation consoles, with Sony yet to announce an official PC release or PS5 remaster.

That hasn't stopped the gaming community from taking matters into its own hands, though, with unofficial PC ports and PlayStation 4 emulation making considerable progress over the past year.

Now, one particularly ambitious project has received another update, offering a glimpse at how good a modern Bloodborne remaster could really look.

Bloodborne's PC remasters bring major graphical improvements

Modder fromsoftserve has released version 1.13 of their Bloodborne PC Remaster project, bringing further improvements to the game's lighting, environmental details, and overall presentation to the unofficial PC version.

As reported by DSOGaming, the latest update improves how light interacts with the player character and reflective surfaces, whilst removing more baked-in shadows and fixing lighting inconsistencies across several locations.

Yahar'gul has received particular attention, with numerous previously baked shadows removed to improve the area's appearance. However, graphical improvements aren't the only reason to revisit Bloodborne on PC.

Thanks to the shadPS4 emulator and community-created performance patches, players can experience the notoriously demanding action RPG beyond the 30fps limit still present when playing the original PS4 release (and PS5 via backwards compatibility).

One Reddit user reports being able to play at 120fps and 1080p; although this fan-made port has been found by some users to be too technologically demanding for their PCs.

Alternatively, the BB Reborne project on Nexus Mods has also been well received — with its own Reddit demonstration showing it can run at 100fps and 1440p with the right build.

Created by Serotoniner, this other project doubles map texture resolutions, reworks environmental lighting and enhances graphical details throughout the base game, DLC, and Chalice Dungeons.

Beyond these graphical upgrades, Bloodborne players have several other fan-made projects worth exploring.

There's Bloodborne Magnus Opus, an ambitious restoration project aiming to bring previously cut content back into the game — including restored cut weapons, armour sets, enemies, and Chalice Dungeons.

What’s more, there’s a separate first-person mod that allows players to explore Yharnam from an entirely new ‘up close and personal’ perspective.

As mentioned, these mod projects are entirely designed around unofficial PC solutions such as shadPS4; this means they sadly won’t work on any official versions of the PS4 gameplay on PlayStation consoles.

To this day, a remastered PS5 version, or even just a 60fps update for playing the PS4 version on the newer system, has still not been announced.
