Ghost of Yotei's free update hides a brilliant Ghost of Tsushima Easter egg as Jin Sakai returns

Ghost of Yōtei fans got a free update this week ahead of the game's first expansion. However, the update came with something a little extra: a Ghost of Tsushima Easter egg featuring the return of Jin Sakai.

In October 2025, Sucker Punch Productions released the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei, on PlayStation 5.

Set 300 years after Jin Sakai's story, Ghost of Yōtei puts us in the role of the ruthless ronin Atsu as she embarks on a bloodthirsty mission to avenge those who mercilessly butchered her family, the Yōtei Six.

Jin Sakai’s return in Ghost of Yōtei will warm your heart

There will be some Ghost of Yōtei spoilers below, so you have been warned.

As brought to our attention by X user Jorraptor, Jin Sakai, or at least his actor, Daisuke Tsuji, has returned in Ghost of Yōtei. However, it’s not a new quest, but rather an additional quest that already existed in the game and can be easily missed.

The quest in question is ‘The Storm Blade Mythic Tale’. Without giving too many details away, because it’s honestly one of the best missions in the entire game, especially for those who hold Ghost of Tsushima dear, Daisuke Tsuji effectively replaces the voice of Erika Ishii (Atsu).

One of the side missions in Ghost of Tsushima is called Haiku, where Jin visits various points on the map, in particular beautiful locations and gently speaks as he reflects on his past, present and future.

Amongst all the many easter eggs and Jin Sakai references in ‘The Storm Blade Mythic Tale’ mission, Atsu takes part in her vision of Jin Sakai’s reflection. However, previously, Erika Ishii recites the words, but following the recent free update, you will now hear Daisuke Tsuji’s voice.

Sucker Punch slyly improves another existing easter egg

The ‘Storm Blade Mythic Tale’ is not the only easter egg in Ghost of Yōtei that’s had an update, because another has been made to the already existing Atsu outfit, inspired by the Sly Cooper series, a property that helped put Sucker Punch Productions on the map in 2002.

Those who are familiar with the Sly Cooper series would have instantly felt nostalgic vibes when they first saw the ‘Mercenary Attire’. It not only had the colour scheme of Sly Cooper’s outfit, but Atsu would also wear a mask inspired by the thieving raccoon.

Following the recent update, as shown in a clip shared by X user realradec, when Atsu equips the ‘Mercenary Attire ’, music from ‘A Tangled Web’, a mission set in Japan in Sly 2: Band of Thieves, will play. Additionally, when Atsu crouch-walks, Sly’s sound effects will also play.

What’s more, Atsu will also say this line: “I don’t know what’s in my future. But I won’t let it be a repeat of my past.” This is what Sly says at the end of Sly 2: Band of Thieves’ intro after the tutorial level.

Ghost of Yōtei is out now exclusively on PlayStation 5. However, on October 1, 2026, its first story expansion arrived with ‘Echoes of Sekigahara’. This “Premium Edition” upgrade also comes bundled with the new single-player survival mode, ‘Most Wanted’, which features a playable Jin Sakai, as well as new armour, gear, cosmetics and more.

The Ghost of Yōtei Premium Edition is available as a standalone purchase (with the base game) or as an upgrade for those who already own the base game.
