Invader Zim Officially Returns In Zim's Tower Of Doom
Invader Zim has been around a long time, and it's still not quite done. It originally ran from 2001 to 2002, but Nickelodeon canceled it after the second season; it has since been revived multiple times. First as a comic series in the 2010s, then as a feature film for Netflix in 2019: Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus.
In other words, Zim refuses to die. He's been incorporated into multiple projects as part of an ensemble cast, and Nick is keen on bringing him back into the fold for anniversary celebrations and the like. Now, he's entering a brand-new arena as of this week.
Thanks to a new update on Steam, we know that Invader Zim has returned, by way of Zim's Tower of Doom.
Available now for Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny, the Zim's Tower of Doom DLC is a two-fold add-on. It brings Invader Zim into Dice of Destiny as a playable character (who wields technology as well as magic), and adds a new game mode in the form of the Pillar of Lost Possibilities.
It's a tower challenge of sorts, which pits players against an endless horde in a survival mode fashion. Think of it like a character pack, but with an extra mode. Zim's Tower of Doom is $10 and requires the base game of Dice of Destiny to play.
So far, fans seem to really be taking to it: "If your issue with Dice of Destiny was the difficulty then this mode has you covered. Going for a rougelike mode, starting your character off from square one and powering up after each level forced me to think more strategically about how I use and focus on the abilities."
Others want more DLC and crossovers due to current roster concerns, while some worry about the price of the single DLC and potential future add-ons. One user also notes that while the DLC is fun overall, the character interactions and dialogue is at an absolute minimum. They're not mute, but they allegedly don't feel as lively as they should.
If you haven't played Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny yet, think of it as an introductory dungeon crawler. It supports split-screen as well as online co-op, and lets you play as characters from the Nicktoons universe, like Sandy Cheeks, Timmy Turner, Susie Carmichael, Danny Phantom, Jimmy Neutron, and Jenny Wakeman.
You'll explore worlds based on the TV shows these characters come from (like Bikini Bottom), while fighting villains like Azula, Angelica, and Plankton. If you want to go at it solo, that's a possibility too. Just know that if Invader Zim was holding you back from trying it, you're good to go.
