Wednesday Season 3’s Timeline & New Addams Family Story Teased By Jenna Ortega
Jenna Ortega reveals when Wednesday season 3 picks up and what the Addams family's new dynamics will entail.
Following Wednesday season 2's twist-filled ending in September 2025, details on the plot and new characters in the upcoming episodes have been held tightly under wraps. While Netflix has revealed several new cast members joining Wednesday season 3, the streamer has yet to drop any big reveals about the next installment's supernatural mysteries and which threats Wednesday Addams will be facing upon her return to Nevermore Academy.
However, Wednesday Addams actor Jenna Ortega has now finally filled in some important gaps regarding the new episodes. In an interview with Esquire, Ortega revealed that Wednesday season 3 will be set during Wednesday's senior year at Nevermore Academy, about a year after the start of season 2. Furthermore, Wednesday's story will put a significant focus on "confrontational feelings regarding family," teasing more contention among the series' Addams family members:
Jenna Ortega: “This season, especially because the kids are seniors in high school now, we’re dealing with more confrontational feelings regarding family and what it means to be an adult and what you see for your life. It’s not really until you get to the precipice of adulthood that you start to realize, 'Oh, God, well, maybe I’ve got to have a plan.'”
Wednesday season 1 was set during the titular character's sophomore year of high school and season 2 saw her return to Nevermore for her junior year, so season 3 is following suit as it begins with each consecutive school year. However, reaching the titular Wednesday character's senior year opens up an important question for the series' future, given its teen school-based focus. Now, Netflix will have to decide whether the series ends with Wednesday graduating from high school or if it'll continue to follow Ortega's character beyond Nevermore.
As Ortega teases, Wednesday season 3 will prominently contend with the conflicts that come with reaching adulthood and figuring out future plans after leaving high school. Regardless of whether Wednesday season 4 happens, it'll be the end of an era for Wednesday and the Addams family after season 3, with the franchise potentially kicking off a new chapter in her life based around what she decides to do after Nevermore.
Meanwhile, the Addams family's internal drama is looking to intensify in season 3 as Wednesday addresses more of her feelings about her relatives. Wednesday and Morticia's rocky relationship has been an important story throughout seasons 1 and 2, and it seems season 3 is gearing up for a much bigger confrontation between the mother and daughter as the latter becomes an adult.
With Eva Green cast as Ophelia Frump, Morticia's seemingly long-lost sister, in Wednesday season 3, the family's dynamics are already set for a major shake-up as Wednesday's aunt finally returns. Multiple generations of Wednesday's family will be facing long-kept secrets, regrets, and animosities, which is almost certain to feature dark supernatural twists given the hit Addams Family spinoff series' history.
In addition to Green, the cast of Wednesday season 3 is welcoming newcomers Winona Ryder as Tabitha, Chris Sarandon as Balthazar, Oscar Morgan as Atticus, Kennedy Moyer as Daisy, and Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy, and James Lance in undisclosed roles. It's still unclear how exactly these actors and their characters will factor into season 3's story, as they join returning stars such as Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Isaac Ordonez, Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley, and more.
Wednesday season 3 is currently in production, with filming having kicked off in February 2026. While Netflix has yet to confirm a release window or date for the series' return, season 3 is expected to premiere in late 2027.
