Today's Your Final Chance To Buy A New Xbox For Less

Today Is Your Last Chance To Buy An Xbox For Less Before Yet Another Price Hike

The price increase that Xbox announced at the end of June is about to take effect. It’s the second time in less than a year that it has upped the cost of its consoles, which means if you don’t buy a new Series X|S today, you’ll have to pay more if you want a new one starting tomorrow.

Xbox's Imminent Price Hikes

The two 1TB Series X models, one with a disc drive and one without, will be $150 more expensive by this time tomorrow. The price of a standard Series X will rise from $649.99 to $799.99, while the white digital edition is $599.99 for today only. From tomorrow, it will cost $749.99.

Series S prices are also about to go up. If you want the smaller, cheaper current-gen Xbox console for the lowest price possible, you can buy the 1TB model today for $449.99 before it goes up to $599.99. The 512GB Series S, which is the cheapest option, is currently $399.99. That price will be going up to $499.99 on August 1.

All four of those models are currently in stock and available through the Microsoft Store for those pre-price-hike MSRPs. You quite literally have hours from the time I’m typing this before all that changes. The consoles are also available at the current prices at major retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop, and that might be where the silver lining lies for anyone who might be reading this after July 31.

Third-Party Retailers Might Keep Prices Lower For Longer

Previous console price hikes, and there have been a lot of them, have not immediately come into effect at third-party retailers until days, sometimes weeks, after the official rollout. That’s because those storefronts still have stock to get through from before the price hike. There’s a chance they join Xbox and switch their price tags out for the new higher ones on August 1, but if they don’t, that means potential customers will turn to them first for a new console.

Third-party retailers are able to continue selling through existing stock for the older prices, as the rising costs felt by Xbox won’t be felt by them until they need to replenish their console stock. So, if you are reading this in August, don’t give up hope. Check the links, even pop into your local GameStop or big box retailer. They might have an Xbox or two still available for less.

If you’re also considering a Switch 2, you’ll want to buy one of those before it’s too late, too. Nintendo’s newest console will be $50 more expensive from September 1, 2026. There’s a silver lining if you want a PS5, though, as PlayStation’s latest financial report suggests it won’t need to raise the price of its consoles again until April 2027, at the earliest.
