Lost Host, an Indie 3D Platformer About a Toy Car, Gets a Release Date

Check out how indie developer Gest.LT crafted a mysterious and engaging world.

Lost Host, a story-driven 3D puzzle platformer developed by Lithuania-based indie developer Pasha Gesta, also known as Gest.LT, received a release date – the game will launch on Steam on November 4, 2026.

In the game, players control a toy car to set out on a journey to look for the missing owner, exploring the house and outdoor locations and solving puzzles along the way. The game mixes mysterious atmosphere, engaging story, and driving mechanics.

As Gest.LT shared with 80 Level, he drew inspiration from Re-Volt, which he loved playing as a kid, enjoying the feeling of driving a toy car and seeing the world from a toy's perspective. Another source of inspiration was building little worlds from building blocks and creating different scenarios for toys.

"I think most of us did something similar as kids – we imagined that we were the main characters in the worlds we created with our toys. Lost Host is basically about that feeling and about our favorite toys. But when you look at the world through the eyes of a tiny toy, it isn't always so cozy. It can also be dark, mysterious, and even dangerous. There are so many everyday things that can be a real threat to a tiny car," Gest.LT told 80 Level.

Lost Host's gameplay features a dynamic physics system and includes avoiding various obstacles, like a dog, a vacuum cleaner, or a sprinkler. Gest.LT shared that making the world feel alive and balancing a toy-like, playful feeling with realistic overcoming of obstacles was a big challenge.

"I spent a lot of time working on the car physics. I wanted the car to feel like a real toy, but at the same time, I wanted it to be fun to drive. I spent a long time trying to find the right balance so that the car could drift and feel playful, while still being able to climb surprisingly steep slopes."

Apart fom driving, there are many physics-based interactions in the game – like picking up objects and throwing and pushing them. "I put a lot of attention into small details like these, because those are often the things players enjoy playing around with," the developer explained. The game has some scary moments too, for example, there are toy monsters that live inside a family-friendly fast-food restaurant. But, according to Gest.LT, despite some darker locations, Lost Host is more of an exploration and driving game.
