Star Wars Is Officially Bringing Back A Beloved Prequel-Era Character

The Millennium Falcon entering hyperspace in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Star Wars fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks, with the official release of Zero Company on Thursday, August 27. The game will take players back to one of the most iconic eras in the timeline, set after the events of The Clone Wars, and offers a single-player turn-based experience. Developed by Bit Reactor and Lucasfilm Games, fans are ready to dive in and see for themselves if it's going to live up to the hype.

However, ahead of Zero Company's official launch, EA has released a final trailer to give fans one last glimpse at what's in store, and there's actually a huge surprise buried here that many players may have overlooked. Just for a brief moment, Clone Wars fans spotted the return of an absolute legend over 18 years since he first appeared on-screen, officially bringing a fan-favorite back after all this time (via YouTube).

Captain Rex in Star Wars Clone Wars

While it's been a while since we last saw him, the honorable Clone Wars Captain Rex is making an official return in Star Wars Zero Company, at least based on his short cameo in the final reveal trailer. Rex was a beloved character in the original Clone Wars movie when it first debuted back in 2008, becoming a staple of the subsequent animated series and making his return across multiple projects since, including The Bad Batch, Star Wars Rebels, and more.

You can see him at roughly the 1:45-minute mark in the new trailer below:

Across The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch, Ahsoka and beyond, Captain Rex has repeatedly proven himself one of the franchise’s most dependable heroes. He fought alongside Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano, resisted Order 66 after having his inhibitor chip removed, helped other clones escape Imperial control, and later joined the Rebellion. Rex’s loyalty, battlefield experience, compassion for his fellow clones, and willingness to question unjust orders have made him an enduring fan-favorite, and it's great to see him back again.

The game is available to pre-order now, with the Standard Edition costing $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on consoles, while the Deluxe Edition is priced at $59.99 on PC and $69.99 on consoles. There's also a $299.99 Collector’s Edition with physical extras including a Hasbro Black Series Thermal Detonator, Steelbook, desk mat, and other Zero Company-themed collectibles. Star Wars: Zero Company launches August 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
