GTA 6 could sell 50 million copies in just a week, according to analyst firm
Grand Theft Auto VI is just four months away from launching on consoles, and even without any new trailers or details, the hype train for the game seems only to be increasing day by day. It's clear that the release is going to be a big one. One that sets industry records. Using pre-order data, one research firm has already crunched some numbers to see just how big this release could get.
The newly released predictions say Take-Two could take in billions of dollars in revenue just during the first week alone. The report comes from video game market analysis firm Newzoo.
The firm has gathered that across the US and the five largest European markets (United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain), Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders had generated around $180 million during its first week of availability. Using data from Grand Theft Auto V's console player base spread in all regions, the firm estimates the sequel has already gained $260 million globally in pre-order sales.
Using that data, and with the series being a proven sequel that has a loyal audience and a tried and tested formula, Grand Theft Auto VI could top out at $5.2 billion in revenue in its launch week according to Newzoo. The lowest revenue forecast, if fans are unsure about the release, is set at it making $3.25 billion in its first week. This is considering a $88 average selling price from the available standard and ultimate editions.
Even looking at the lower end of the week-one sales forecast, Newzoo puts Grand Theft Auto VI at around 37 million copies sold , while that number can go up to 51 million units.
Nowadays, even selling a million or two copies warrants celebrations on social media by major game developers and publishers like Ubisoft, even setting records for long-running franchises. Unless something colossal happens to dampen the hype train for Grand Theft Auto VI, it certainly looks like the game is slated to become the biggest launch for an entertainment product ever, just like all the analysts are predicting.
Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on November 19, 2026. Pre-loading is slated to kick off on November 12 for those who pre-order. Keep in mind that Take-Two has confirmed that the physical edition will not include a disc.
