Pokémon Giving Away 30th Anniversary Free Download To All Gamers For A Limited Time
It is not terribly surprising that The Pokémon Company has gone all out for Pokémon's 30th anniversary celebrations, but it is astounding just how much it has released as a part of the event. Everything from books to bizarre collaborations and merch has come out of this monumental event, giving fans an abundance of sentimental and meaningful tat to adorn their shelves with, as well as a handful of goofy partnerships between The Pokémon Company and utterly unrelated companies to laugh about.
Simply put, the absolutely massive Pokémon 30th anniversary celebrations have achieved its goal and clearly resonated with a lot of fans. However, it is naturally beginning to wind down as we enter the latter third of the year, and one would be forgiven for expecting The Pokémon Company to slow down the announcements, releases, and free content as a result. However, that is, thankfully, simply not the case. In fact, it is giving away a completely free Pokémon download as part of the celebrations that fans will absolutely want to check out.
Pokémon fans will all have their favorite 30th anniversary reveals and drops, whether it was the announcement of Winds and Waves, all 1025 Pokémon being documented in a single book, FireRed and LeafGreen finally being ported to the Nintendo Switch, or the recently leaked Ruby and Sapphire ports. However, Pokémon GO fans have undeniably been benefiting the most from the celebrations, as their favorite game is also experiencing its 10th anniversary this year.
As part of the dual celebrations, users are being ostensibly handed one of the rarest Pokémon in Pokémon GO via Timed Research tasks. This Pokémon is a Mewtwo with perfect stats, something that is typically incredibly difficult to get without spending a fortune redoing raids and hoping you get lucky. Now, in an attempt to make up for making this highly-desirable Pokémon exclusive to a press and influencer-only event back in July, this version of Mewtwo is being made more readily accessible.
In order to get this Mewtwo with perfect stats, Pokémon GO players must take part in the ongoing GO Fest and will simply have to catch 10 Pokémon and power up a Pokémon 10 times in the aforementioned timed research. Upon doing so, they'll unlock Mewtwo, receive a Master Ball, and will have the third Mega Level of this version of Mewtwo unlocked to allow it to become Mega Mewtwo Y. It is a huge win for long-term fans and a great way to kick off Pokémon GO's 10th anniversary celebrations.
While this free Pokémon download may not be a full game or DLC as some might have hoped it would be, it's a great reward for the hundreds if not thousands of hours fans have sunk into Pokémon GO and a great incentive to hop on board and start playing. With even more events, releases, and reveals likely planned for the end of 2026, fans can expect even more to come, like this Pokémon GO event, from the ongoing Pokémon 30th anniversary celebrations in the very near future.
