Crimson Desert confirms free DLC for players to claim ahead of Charting The Unknown launch

Crimson Desert’s Charting The Unknown DLC is finally set to arrive on October 29, but it will set you back $24.99 (£19.99).

You don’t, however, need to part with your hard-earned money in order to nab a newly revealed slew of free DLC for Crimson Desert, as it's been confirmed that several Twitch Drops are on the way.

Peal Abyss took to social media site Tiwtter/X to outline what’s to come in the two-week event, with Crimson Desert players able to get their hands on new weapons, cosmetics, and ship-building componants.

The event will be split into ‘week one’ and ‘week two’ with the former timed to begin with the release of Charting The Unknown on October 29; the second week then follows from November 5.

All of the DLC items featured in the first week can be used by all Crimson Desert players and are therefore available in the base game.

The second week’s items, however, do require ownership of the new Charting The Unknown DLC as it’s this expansion that introduces ship building where these items can be used.

If you’re not familiar with Twitch Drops, you essentially need to watch eligible Crimson Desert streams while signed in to Twitch with your Pearl Abyss account linked.

After reaching certain milestones, the DLC items will unlock and be yours.

During the event’s first week, you’ll gain 10 Braised Meat and a Pirate Lantern after watching for one hour, a Pirate Eyepatch and Pirate Sword after watching for two hours, and a Pet Parrot and Parrot Pirate Hat after reaching the three-hour mark.

During the second week, it’s a Medium Fair Wind Figurehead that unlocks at one hour, a Medium Fair Wind Stern that unlocks at two, and a Medium Fair Wind Sail that unlocks after three hours.

Here are the event’s official runtimes for major timezones:

Week One

  • October 29, 22:00 – November 4, 23:59 GMT
  • October 29, 23:00 – November 5, 00:59 CET
  • October 29, 15:00 – November 5, 15:59 PT
  • October 30, 07:00 – November 5, 08:59 KST

Week Two

  • November 5, 00:00 – November 11, 23:59 GMT
  • November 5, 01:00 – November 12, 00:59 CET
  • November 4, 16:00 – November 11, 15:59 PT
  • November 5, 09:00 – November 12, 08:59 KST

Admittedly, Twitch Drops aren’t hugely popular as while players want to get their hands on these items, not everyone has the spare time to dedicate a total of six hours to watching streams.

As many have pointed out though, you don’t nesscerilly need to dedicate your undivided attention to said streams.

“Mute stream, 160p, and make the window small as possible. Ez drops,” recommended Reddit user Affectionate-Ad-6934.

“I'm sure there are way cooler ship designs to be found in the DLC, but I'm probably still gonna get these from FOMO,” commented KOREANARMYSTEW.

It’s worth pointing out that whatever your opinion of Twitch Drops, the items featured within them rarely ever surface again, so this might be your one and only chance to secure what’s on offer.

Pearl Abyss is clearly doing everything it can to get Crimson Desert in that ‘game of the year’ race.

The fact that we’re getting a DLC of Charting The Unknown’s size within the base game’s release year isn’t something that happens every day.
