Power Rangers Unveils New Green Ranger Design Ahead of Tommy Oliver’s Return
2026 is shaping up to be a monumental year for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ Tommy Oliver, as the iconic Green Ranger returns to the spotlight in not one, but two new series. Of course, with new series come new redesigns, and the Green Ranger has now revealed his latest look ahead of what promises to be an unforgettable expansion of his MMPR legacy.
BOOM! Studios has officially dropped its October solicitations, and among the teases is a first look at writer Marguerite Bennett, artist Andrew Griffith, and colorist Joshua Jensen’s upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #5 (2026). Those keeping up with all things Power Rangers know that BOOM! Studios recently relaunched its globally acclaimed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, ushering in a number of new costumes and character designs.
While the first issue of MMPR saw Tommy picking his way through a prehistoric jungle, we’ve yet to see the character reclaim his Green Ranger mantle and join his fellow Rangers, leaving fans hanging when it comes to his highly anticipated redesign. However, the cover art for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #5 has officially revealed Tommy Oliver’s new look ahead of his return as the Green Ranger.
Tommy Oliver’s New Green Ranger Look & Era, Explained

As a little background, Bennett and Griffith’s MMPR run is set ten years after the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers turned in their morphers and went their separate ways. However, the return of the villainous Rita Repulsa sees the once-retired Rangers returning to the legendary Command Center to face off against this iconic foe once more.
Given that the Rangers are returning after a ten-year break and are now well into their adult years, it’s unsurprising that they’d be getting fresh suits. The Blue, Pink, Yellow, Red, and Black Rangers have all debuted radically different redesigns (such as the Pink Ranger losing her iconic skirt) that help visually distinguish this new MMPR era. While fan reception to these redesigns has been mixed, Green Ranger fans will likely be more than content with Tommy’s look.
While the other five Rangers seem to have gone with bold new costumes, Tommy seems content with simply dusting off his old suit. The Ranger notably stands out from his comrades, with Simona Di Gianfelice’s main cover for issue #5 revealing that Tommy has rejected the more uniform look of his friends and instead returned to the classics.
While there are some design tweaks that make this Green Ranger suit not an exact replica of Tommy’s OG look, it remains remarkably true to the classic design. His dragon helmet, golden diamond chest piece, and signature Dragon Dagger all make a welcome return for Tommy Oliver’s imminent return as the Green Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' new era.
