GTA 6 Leak Reveals New Combat Gameplay
Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks have started to arrive at a rapid pace ahead of the game's upcoming Netflix showcase on August 27. With each subsequent release of footage, it's starting to look more and more like a leaker has a build of the game on their hands, so there's no telling what we'll get next.
Yesterday, footage of Jason playing basketball took the Internet by storm, along with a leak of a full map of Leonida. Now, the latest clip shows off some of GTA 6's combat, although not in the form of a structured story mission with any clear goals.
The new footage, shared by Reddit user jamesisbest2, follows Jason on a rampage through the streets of Leonida. At the start of the clip, he kills a police officer with a knife to take his motorcycle and ride it into the water, sirens blaring. From there, he runs into an encampment of people under an overpass, where he pulls out the knife again and starts a killing spree.
The end of the clip abruptly transitions to a snippet of a cutscene, where Jason and his friend Cal Hampton clink beer bottles in a toast to "good living." Jason references the threat of "the men in suits" hanging over Cal's conspiratorial life, to which Cal simply laughs and says "They don't know nothin' about me, man. I use a VPN." While this bit is disconnected from the rest of the leak, it comes across as the leaker thumbing his nose at Rockstar and the implicit threat of legal consequences.
The main takeaway from the new clip is the knife combat, which looks relatively similar to the approach taken in Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2. Throughout the killing spree, people react to Jason's actions in distress, although they don't take quick action to effectively avoid his attacks.
Jason heals with a pickup called Zombix, a painkiller that appeared in GTA 5. As the build of the game is likely older, it's hard to take too much away from the UI, but Jason selects his hunting knife from a simple weapon wheel that can apparently be toggled to an item wheel.
So far, the leaked clips have been showcasing different aspects of the game, so there's a reasonable chance we'll end up seeing other mechanics on display in the coming days. If it all dries up, though, Rockstar should provide some official footage in the Netflix showcase in a matter of days, finally kicking things into gear before the November release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
