Its first season, titled Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, crossed over 1 billion viewing hours, and each season has been even more intense than the last, with major stars such as Evan Peters and Charlie Hunnam stepping into the leading roles.
Netflix has released a new trailer for Murphy's horrifying anthology series and its fourth installment, titled Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. The fourth series will be released on Netflix on September 17, with Ella Beatty, Vicky Krieps, Billie Lourd, Joey Pollari, Sarah Paulson, Jessica Barden, and Rebecca Hall appearing in the series alongside Hunnam, who portrayed the gruesome Ed Gein in Monster's season 3. Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story will consist of eight episodes written and created by Brennan.

Lizzie Borden was tried and acquitted for the axe murders of her father and stepmother in 1892. Despite public suspicion and a famous childhood rhyme, no one was charged for the murders and the case remains an unsolved American mystery. Borden was caught attempting to buy poison before the murder and her alibis constantly shifted, but was never found guilty. Borden later died of pneumonia in 1927, and the rhyme "Lizzie Borden took an ax / Gave her mother forty whacks..." has left many wondering what happened.
Since its release, Murphy's Monster series ranks among the most popular English-language series on Netflix and has earned 23 Primetime Emmy Award nominations. However, Monster: The Ed Gein Story had a lot of divisive reactions upon its release, with critics rating season 3 22% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics stated that "Monster: The Ed Gein Story is as pulpy and sloppy as the comics that Ed reads, a product of sensationalism, rage bait, and misinformation." However, some said, "It is disturbing, thought-provoking, and anchored by Hunnam’s career-defining performance."
