A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Gets Huge New Return Update From Egg Actor After Delays

Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg with fire behind him in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 episode 5

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 is fast approaching.

The Game of Thrones prequel series has received a huge new return update from Egg actor Dexter Sol Ansell following a number of production delays. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 pulls from the pages of George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, specifically adapting the second book in the series, The Sworn Sword. The upcoming season will see Dunk and Egg travel to Dorne, with the core conflict centering around their first big adventure after Egg became the core protagonist's squire.

Now, Ansell has published a post to his Instagram story, confirming that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 has finally wrapped filming. The upcoming season was originally supposed to finish filming in June of this year, but this goal wound up being delayed. It's believed to have taken longer because of the floods in Gran Carina, Spain, which acts as a filming location for season 2. Thankfully, this filming news means the show is likely still going to make its projected early 2027 release window, since the delays only added one month to its filming.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 was nominated for nine Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 ended with Dunk and Egg finally reconciling their friendship, becoming knight and squire as they begin traversing across various locations in Westeros and beyond. The season ended on the comedic stinger that Egg's father, Maekar Targaryen, didn't know his son was gone, though seemingly suspecting he went off on an adventure with Dunk. It's somewhat of a departure from the book series, but one that lays the groundwork for the tone as the series continues.

Egg and Dunk in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 3

Showrunner Ira Parker has a massive plan for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, with season 2 being just one small part of the larger story being told. Dunk and Egg are destined for greatness, with Parker wanting to tell the story of their lives in three chunks of four to five seasons each, with real-time years passing by so the actors can age into their characters' roles going forward. Just how much of this plan happens remains to be seen, since Martin is only now writing the fourth book in the novella series.

It's not the only Game of Thrones spinoff planned for years into the future. While House of the Dragon season 3 is about to end, season 4 will be bringing the Targaryen civil war to its conclusion in 2028. Another Targaryen-focused spinoff, Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest, will act as the first movie in the franchise, with a release window currently unclear. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms stands out for its comedy and small-scale storytelling, alongside plenty of serious, important moments that help it fit within the realm of the other series.

Season 2 has plenty of potential for where Dunk and Egg's story may go, and now that Ansell has confirmed filming is complete, it only serves to hype up their return even more. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms continues to be an impressive entry in the Game of Thrones universe, and one with the potential to continue delivering memorable stories for years to come.
