Fallout 5 Can Wait, Fallout: New California Just Got An Official Release

Though Bethesda recently dropped an enormous number of announcements on fans' heads, there are plenty of caveats to the potential excitement of those confirmations. Remasters for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are on the way, while Fallout 5 is in pre-production while the studio focuses on The Elder Scrolls VI.

As cool as that is, we aren't going to be playing any of those projects any time soon, with 2027 the earliest possible date for the release of one of those remasters. While we wait, the old games are the best bet, and there are some spectacular mods out there that offer very exciting new experiences within a familiar framework.

Now, one of the best examples of that for New Vegas has just got a new release, and it's well worth a go if you're planning a fresh playthrough.

Who Needs Fallout 5? New California Is Here

As first reported by RPG Site, beloved mod Fallout - New California is now available through GOG with One-click Mod support. The download has been available via traditional methods on the PC for a little while, but this marks a whole new era for it in terms of convenience.

In sharing the news with their consumer base, GOG detailed exactly what fans can expect from the mod, saying:

"Embark on the ultimate unofficial prequel to Fallout: New Vegas – Fallout - New California is now available as GOG One-click Mod!

"One of the biggest story mods ever made, this standalone campaign features an entirely new map with brand-new areas, starting inside Vault 18 and spanning the New California wasteland. Fight through an epic war between the NCR, Enclave, Raiders, and Super Mutants, complete with studio-quality voice acting, dynamic radio, and 8 unique companions. Now on GOG!

"In Fallout: New California you play as the kid from Vault 18. Orphan. Loner. Mutant. On the last big night of the Vault Ball season in 2260, you make a fateful decision that will change the course of your life — and eventually the future of the New California Republic."

It's also quite pertinent to the ongoing events of the show, given how heavily it focuses on factions like the NCR and the Enclave. Also, as a free download, there really isn't any risk associated with giving it a go, I'm almost certain you won't regret it (as someone who has played through already).

The Ghoul Looking Scared in Fallout Season 2

Other than that, season three of the excellent Fallout adaptation is on the way soon, with filming now underway and several notable new cast members joining the chaos. That should tide us over until we get at least one of the aforementioned releases, or I'm hoping so, at the very least.
