Becoming a hit Amazon Prime Video television series before being unceremoniously canceled back in 2025 following high production costs and low viewership, The Wheel of Time is still remembered fondly with fans coming together to begin the #SaveWoT campaign.
However, for the three seasons in which it ran, beginning back in 2021, the fantasy series, inspired by the works of Robert Jordan, with Brandon Sanderson as co-author of the final three installments, was a hit, so it is no wonder that fans are eager for it to continue.
Whilst the Prime Video adaptation is not set to return anytime soon, there is another exciting release set in The Wheel of Time universe expected to launch soon, all thanks to a popular campaign.
War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time is currently the subject of an official BackerKit campaign courtesy of games studio Dire Wolf. Recently reaching the $1,167,000 mark against its original goal of just $50,000, it is safe to say that fans are eager for a game set in The Wheel of Time universe and, so luckily, War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time is available to pre-order now with its The One Power edition of the game available for $135.
So what is this upcoming release? Designed by Andy Clautice, Mike Mihealsick, and Ryan Schoon, War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time is a grand strategy board game which will task players to "wage war across a land of magic, ancient prophecies, and powerful armies set to save the world... or destroy it." Not only that, but players can expect two distinct game modes, each with their own rules and mechanics.
These are Hero Mode and Epic Mode. Whilst Hero Mode is aimed at new players, focusing on small-scale encounters that can be completed relatively quickly, Epic Mode is dedicated to large-scale confrontations, where players will be forced to command massive armies across Sanderson's epic universe.
"Both game modes span the two years from The Battle of Tow Rivers depicted in The Shadow Rising to the end of the Third Age. Hero Mode includes the preparations for The Last Battle, while Epic Mode brings the entire cataclysmic confrontation right to your tabletop."
Set to launch some time in 2027, this strategy board game will be the perfect addition to the life of any Sanderson fan, especially those left mourning the cancellation of The Wheel of Time. Who knows? Hopefully the success of this upcoming release will finally give Amazon that final kick up the ass.
