Athens studio Luminous Design marked its first twenty-five years with a gift rather than a campaign. 1ST25Y is a hand-numbered edition of sixty-eight, each box holding four one-of-a-kind ceramic vessels made for the clients and collaborators who shaped the studio’s first quarter century.

The spec is printed as plainly as a materials label: hand-painted black stone clay, 20% chamotte, fired at 1250°C, glazed inside so it holds water — and, the card adds, “the perfect number of flowers”.

The packaging is treated as an extension of the objects it holds rather than a container for them. A mirror-finish outer shell gives way to monochrome surfaces, tactile uncoated paper and embossed detailing that has to be caught in raking light to be read at all.

Nothing is printed where it could instead be debossed, so the box reveals its own wordmark through shadow rather than ink. Even the edition number is handwritten in silver on black, one box at a time.

That restraint turns the unboxing into something closer to a ritual, which is the point: this is product design built to slow a moment down. The vessels sit in cut foam beneath a printed booklet documenting the edition.

White gloves in the photography are not an affectation either — the mirror board shows every fingerprint, so the object almost dictates how it has to be handled.

The whole object is asked to carry rather more than four pots — twenty-five years of a studio’s ideas, handed back to the people who shaped them.
