Usages du bambou japonais

Usages du bambou japonais (“Japanese applications of bamboo”) is the fourth volume in a series of exhibition catalogues dedicated to Japanese arts and crafts, designed as part of the Exhibition construction course in the “Master 2 Patrimoine culturel et technique” program at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

The exhibition catalogue was conceived by the students under the direction of Nadine Leblanc, in collaboration with Béatrice Quette (Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris). Focusing on the many uses of Japanese bamboo, the publication combines historical and cultural content with a restrained editorial design that emphasizes readability and materiality.

The catalogue is set in PoW Garnier and accompanied by IBM Plex Mono. The typeface’s subtle details complement the subject matter, balancing scholarly content with the tactile qualities associated with traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
The layout relies on restrained typography, generous margins, and a consistent grid to create a calm reading experience, allowing the richness of the content and imagery to unfold.
