Typography: Eredivisie Display by Blaze Type

Discover how Blaze Type and GraphicHunters crafted the Eredivisie Display typography system, turning a sports logo into a bold broadcast font.

Sports leagues need a voice that holds up everywhere. When GraphicHunters brought in Blaze Type to extend the new Eredivisie identity, the core emblem was already locked in. The studio didn't need to reinvent the direction from scratch. Their job was translating that circular mark into a hard-working custom typeface built for daily broadcast and stadium pressure. Having previously engineered custom letterforms for Borussia Dortmund, the foundry knew how to navigate a major European football ecosystem. That experience shows immediately. Every curve feels purposeful on screen.

Custom Typography Built for Matchday Scale

The primary mark gave them a clear starting point: a rounded lowercase 'e', a sharp bevel, and strong elementary geometry. Copying those shapes onto a few headline letters wouldn't work. Sebastien Hayez and the Blaze Type team distilled those traits into repeatable rules across the full character set. Circular bowls meet crisp diagonal cuts and open counters across every uppercase glyph, numeral, and diacritic. It reads clean at a glance. From tight tabular scoreboard figures to wide stadium LED ribbons, the spacing stays rock solid under fast camera pans and live matchday graphics.

What makes this typography project stand out is the partnership model behind it. GraphicHunters steered the core brand identity — setting the art direction while Blaze Type focused purely on font engineering and glyph drawing in Illustrator. There aren't any watered-down compromises of an off-the-shelf condensed grotesk here. Every weight jump, terminal angle, and punctuation mark carries the exact DNA of the Dutch league's emblem. It's a sharp, durable typography system that speaks with real authority on pitch-side boards, broadcast lower-thirds, and matchday posters alike.
