PLATFORM: a steel bed frame reimagined as a piece of architecture

Amsterdam architect and designer Rik Frans Jansen presents PLATFORM, a bed made from stainless steel and aluminum and dressed by Berlin bedding label Brut Studios at Paris Design Week 2026. Its bolted metal panels and exposed aluminum profiles draw from building construction, bringing materials usually concealed behind walls and ceilings into the domestic interior.

Presented at GOOD SELECTION, an exhibition organized by designer Lucas Zito during Paris Design Week 2026, PLATFORM measures 250 × 220 × 50 cm. The bed consists of an aluminum profile frame clad in bolted stainless-steel panels, lifting the sleeping platform above the floor and giving it a distinct spatial presence.

Exposed joints and soft sateen contrast across the PLATFORM bed

The same panel system continues into a low headboard with integrated power outlets, while joints, bolts, and profile ends remain visible. The approach reflects Jansen’s architectural background and his interest in materials typically encountered during construction before they are concealed within a building. Here, these structural elements become the visible language of the furniture.

The rigid metal construction is paired with Brut Studios’ 600-thread-count sateen made from extra-long-staple Egyptian cotton, presented in Ashen Stone and Concrete Blue. The colors reference the tones of the steel, creating a contrast between the hard metal frame and the soft textile surface.

RIK FRANS JANSEN’S uses Brut Studios’ bedding in exhibition settings

Designed in Berlin and made in Egypt, Brut Studios develops bedding through material, proportion, and a restrained palette of architectural colors. For the presentation, the bedding extends the PLATFORM concept into the softer elements of the bedroom while maintaining its material and tonal relationship with the bed frame.
