Sarah Bernhardt exhibition catalog, Paris Musées

Catalog for an exhibition shown in 2023 at Petit Palais – Musée des Beaux-Arts de la ville de Paris. Description of the project by designer Anaïs Lancrenon:

Extravagant, provocative, modern, daring, pioneering, committed, vibrant, brilliant, and inexhaustible are just a few of the adjectives used to describe the artist Sarah Bernhardt. They guided me in my graphic design process as I sought to find the right tone for this exhibition catalog dedicated to the artist.

I chose the Matorral typeface from the Bureau Brut foundry. I love the strength it exudes. The name “Sarah Bernhardt” in all caps with this typeface has a lot of character. I particularly love the design of the letter R. I love the energy of its italic style and the power of its bold weights.
