forestier’s solis pendants by jette scheib radiate a soft glow with hand-woven raphia

JETTE SCHEIB EXPLOREs THE GEOMETRY OF LIGHT WITH SOLIS

Maison Forestier introduces the Solis collection, a series of pendant lights that balance natural fibers with graphic forms. Designed by Jette Scheib, these luminaires use hand-woven raphia to diffuse a soft glow that mimics the gentle warmth of daylight. By stretching the organic material over rigid metallic frames, the collection creates visual depth with silhouettes that shift subtly with every perspective.

A LONG-TERM ALLIANCE SHAPING FORESTIER’S IDENTITY

For the Solis collection, Maison Forestier continues its collaboration with German designer and longtime partner Jette Scheib, who has previously shaped the brand’s identity through several emblematic collections. Trained at the University of the Arts in Berlin, Scheib’s design language for Solis maintains a dialogue between nature and graphic lines, reflecting a harmonious balance between contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship.

THE MATERIAL LANDSCAPE AND CRAFTMANSHIP OF THE PHILIPPINES

The technical execution of the Solis collection is rooted in a fifteen-year partnership with specialized workshops in the Philippines, where weaving and basketry skills are passed down through generations. The process centers on natural raphia — a living plant fiber cultivated under the sun — which is meticulously hand-woven over a metallic structure. This manual work demands extreme patience and precision, ensuring that the light passing through the weave is softened and warm, while a fine black edging underscores the organic silhouettes.

Each piece is defined by the subtle irregularities inherent in the raphia, making every luminaire in the series unique. Available in sizes ranging from 40cm to 100cm in diameter, the pendants offer a timeless, quiet presence that fits into both contemporary and rustic interiors.
