Women’s Pro Baseball League

Launching a new professional sports league is a monumental branding task, especially when it means creating four team identities from the ground up. For the inaugural season of the Women’s Pro Baseball League, Arrivals + Departures developed the names, uniforms, and visual identities for the Boston Hunters, Los Angeles Queens, New York Heights, and San Francisco Firebells. At the heart of the project is an especially meaningful concept: each franchise is inspired by a trailblazing woman whose legacy is connected to the team’s city or to the history of women’s baseball.

The shared idea ties the four founding teams together while giving each its own story and visual identity. Typography helps distinguish them further. The Boston Hunters use Apex Mk3 by Jeremy Nelson with Fineday by Mika Melvas; the Los Angeles Queens use Gotham Narrow by Hoefler & Co. (with a custom Q); the New York Heights use Hudson NY by Andrew Footit; and the San Francisco Firebells use Centrifuge by Midwest Type with Hudson NY.
