In its rebrand, Øyedrops uses motion in clever ways to capture payment platform Microlog’s swiftness — The Brand Identity – Home of the Greatest in Graphic & Brand Design

Providing solutions across retail, healthcare, hospitality, and other sectors, Microlog specialises in the art of streamlining payment processes. The Scandinavian tech company has experienced remarkable growth and recognition in recent years, prompting the need for a brand revamp to establish its next chapter. This refresh required not just an updated look, but one that’s easily implementable – enabling the in-house team to communicate their approach and values effectively. Oslo-based motion design studio Øyedrops delivered a comprehensive identity update, encompassing a new logo, colour palette, typography, 3D visuals, website, and media assets.

Inspired by Microlog’s mission to simplify and humanise fintech solutions, Øyedrops’ visual direction prioritises clarity, trust, and innovation – expressed with a sleek, modern aesthetic. “Through our initial sessions with the client, we quickly recognised that they wanted to be seen as both reliable and trustworthy, but also bold and innovative,” Creative Director Christopher S. Larsen explains. “We therefore focused our efforts on keeping both the design and motion system clear and simple, but presented in a way that had energy and tempo.”
The identity includes nods to Microlog’s heritage, such as the continuation of an ‘M’ as the logo. The updated version, Larsen tells us, is created from streams of dashes, representing “data flow, financial processes, and seamless connections between users and their financial systems.” This, like the wider visual language, places focus on the seamless flow of data and transactions, emphasising the ideas of movement and connectivity. Motion therefore is a central focus of Øyedrops’ solution, with a motion language system built around smooth transitions and directional streams – mimicking the intuitive processes of the platform. “A distinct detail was adding a ‘blink’ effect to all text and other select elements, giving the motion identity a subtle digital feeling,” Larsen adds.

Staying true to the digital-first implementation of Microlog’s identity, the identity’s primary typeface – Golos Text – was selected for optimal legibility across all digital platforms and screen sizes. Used not only for the wordmark, but consistently throughout the brand, the closed sans serif features rounded shapes that connect to the logo’s elements while maintaining a modern, functional, and approachable character.
As part of preserving its legacy, Microlog retains its signature red – continuing to defy the “safe but generic” fintech blues and greens. “And while red can sometimes have negative connotations in financial contexts,” Larsen notes, “we carefully calibrated the hue to evoke energy, confidence, and progress, ensuring it feels bold yet approachable.”
