lasvit imprints bohemian meadows into custom lighting fixture for napa valley home

LASVIT ENCAPSULATES HAND-PICKED BOTANICALS IN BOHEMIAN CRYSTAL

Lasvit’s Herbarium lighting sculpture hangs as a luminous centerpiece at the heart of a private residence in Napa Valley, California. Nestled among rolling vineyards, running streams, and wildflower meadows, the home offers a natural backdrop for the bespoke lighting fixture. Bridging architecture and nature, the custom installation relies on a specialized craft technique where artisans pour molten glass over hand picked flora, imprinting botanical textures directly into crystal pendants.

Our glassworks are surrounded by wild nature. In this countryside, we find the roots of both Bohemian glassmaking and the Lasvit family. With Herbarium, we wanted to capture this wilderness so that anyone could take home a piece of this landscape — a piece of the meadow, preserved in glass, says Mária Čulenová, Lasvit’s Chief Designer, who led the creative team behind Herbarium.

TRADITIONAL GLASSWORK EVOLVES INTO ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING

Designed under the creative direction of Mária Čulenová, the Herbarium lighting sculpture translates the wild meadows surrounding Lasvit’s glassworks in North Bohemia into a modular lighting concept. The fixture brings a physical piece of the Czech countryside into private spaces, forming part of the Lasvit Icons series. Founded in 2007 by Leon Jakimič, the design house preserves traditional hand blown glassmaking while collaborating with global design practices including Kengo Kuma, Yabu Pushelberg, and Maarten Baas. Adapting bespoke concepts into flexible modular systems, the Herbarium model enables architects and interior designers to tailor custom lighting configurations for private residences and large scale architectural projects.

DYNAMIC LIGHT AND SHADOW TRANSFORM THE NAPA VALLEY interior

As daylight shifts across the vineyard, Lasvit’s Herbarium suspension lamp casts delicate textures of light and shadow throughout the room. Sunlight filters through hand blown crystal pendants, catching the fine veins of leaves and petals imprinted into the glass during the casting process. Handcrafted in North Bohemia, every individual element preserves the raw unpredictability of nature, combining into a single sculptural volume above the primary living space. When illuminated from within at dusk, the installation softly focuses the light, wrapping the Napa Valley residence in a warm, tactile glow that bridges the interior with the surrounding landscape.
