hollowed quartzite and steel form concav book, a magnetic bookend luminaire

HOLLOWED BRAZILIAN QUARTZITE HOUSES HIDDEN LIGHTING ELEMENTS

The CONCAV collection, designed by Ignacio Martínez Todeschini and Ignacio Noel and produced in Argentina, explores geometric forms and lighting through Brazilian quartzite and galvanized steel. The central element of the series is a hollowed, curved quartzite module created through CNC milling and hand-finishing. This process houses the light source within the stone, creating a backlit linear element that contrasts the material’s inherent density. The piece pairs an L-shaped support and a mobile C-element connected by hidden magnets to turn a functional bookend into an interactive luminary gesture.

MAGNETIC light SWITCHING pairs WITH ADJUSTABLE BOOK SUPPORT

The inaugural release, CONCAV Book, functions as a hybrid bookend and luminaire. The design by Ignacio Martínez Todeschini and Ignacio Noel – Imto Deschini Studio comprises two distinct components: a fixed L-shaped steel base that houses the light source and acts as the main support, and a mobile C-shaped element. Hidden magnets regulate the internal circuitry, activating the light source when the two components are connected and turning it off when separated. This magnetic connection allows the user to adjust the configuration based on the arrangement and volume of books.
