Does Canada's Mac & Cheese Love Merit A KD-Flavored Soda? Kraft and Solly's Say Yes

  • Kraft Dinner is a national favorite in Canada, and Canucks eat more of it than even Americans.
  • Toronto’s Solly’s Craft Soda has partnered with Kraft to create a KD-flavored cream soda with a retail rollout planned for October.

As popular as Kraft macaroni and cheese is in the United States, its neighbor, Canada, out mac-and-cheeses us by a whopping 55 percent. Canucks buy a quarter of all boxes sold globally, and while poutine and maple syrup come to mind first when it comes to the country’s cuisine, the denizens of the Great White North themselves have an affinity for “Kraft Dinners,” or “KD,” as they like to call the quick and cheesy food.

But as much as Canadians love to eat Kraft Dinners, would they drink a mac-and-cheese-flavored soda?

The latest collaboration between Kraft Heinz in Canada and Solly’s Craft Soda puts Canuck’s love of KD to the test. The partnership takes a Canadian food staple and combines it with Torontonian Solly’s cream soda in an unexpected “Kraft dinner hack.”

Kraft and Solly’s limited-edition cream soda is described as sweet and savory, and the cans sport a familiar Kraft Dinner blue and logo. A forkful of mac and cheese appears on the front, along with Solly’s branding and a maple leaf.

“For an independent company like Solly’s Craft Soda, having an iconic Canadian brand like KD believe in us is a genuinely big deal,” said Adin Wener, founder of Solly’s Craft Soda, via press release. “This was an amazing challenge and product to work on. We wanted to create something novel that would make people smile, but was still authentically Solly’s and tasted like a great soda with the same benefits as our core products. It’s wonderfully strange, and somehow, it works.”

This limited-edition mac-and-cheese soda is available now in Canada on Amazon, with a retail rollout slated for October.
