WOVEN BAMBOO pairs with CROCHETED TEXTILES IN CHAIR SCULPTURE

Designed by Peiyang (Camille) Li, She Blooms in the Dark is a glowing seating sculpture that examines emotional vulnerability and protective spatial thresholds. The project pairs hand-crocheted textile craft with traditional bent-wood furniture techniques, mounting an array of individual blossoms across the open-lattice framework of an oversized, woven bamboo armchair.

UV-REACTIVE YARN BLOOMS STORE DAYLIGHT TO EMIT AMBIENT GLOW

The sculptural seat by designer Peiyang (Camille) Li functions simultaneously as a functional chair and a semi-enclosed personal retreat, utilizing a curved, basket-like silhouette to delineate an intimate interior microclimate for solitary reflection. Each floral element is crocheted by hand using phosphorescent, UV-reactive yarn engineered to absorb daylight and emit a soft, low-intensity glow in dark environments. By forgoing high-output electric fixtures in favor of photoluminescent fibers, the textile piece activates after dark, transforming the structural bamboo envelope into an illuminated shelter where soft woven media counterbalance the rigid natural framework.
