Who Was? book series

Who Was? is a series of educative books started by Penguin in 2002. As of 2026, there are more than 250 titles that tell “the incredible stories of trailblazers, legends, innovators, and creators.” In addition, there are various spin-off series, including What Was?, Where Is?, What Is the Story of?, and What Do We Know About?

The covers all use Lemonade for the title, with the author’s name and “The #1 New York Times Best-Selling Series” added in Triplex Sans.
