Camera Restricta by Philipp Schmitt is a speculative camera design that refuses to take photographs in places that have already been photographed too many times.
Using GPS, the camera searches nearby geotagged images online and, if it detects that everyone is taking photos in this location, the camera shows red cross indicator in the viewfinder and refuses to take a photo.
Rather than helping capture more images, the camera encourages photographers to seek unexplored viewpoints and questions our increasingly repetitive image-making habits.
