Packaging Design: TeaGether by Backbone Branding
Backbone Branding built a playful packaging design for TeaGether. Quaint wooden tables and tablecloth lids celebrate global teatime sweets.
Yerevan studio Backbone Branding developed TeaGether to explore universal teatime rituals across diverse cultures. While confectionery traditions vary across continents, the shared habit of gathering over warm tea unites people everywhere. The studio translated this social ceremony into a sculptural packaging design that doubles as miniature dining furniture. Each confectionery box rests upon slender wooden legs to mimic a banquet table ready for guests. The exterior lid folds over the container like a draped tablecloth with decorative hemline trims. Creative director Stepan Azaryan and Illustrator Mariam Stepanyan drew authentic cultural markers for every regional edition. Distinct teapots, carved spoons, and regional textiles distinguish each tea ceremony. The tactile container invites people to sit down and share sweets as one community.
Structural Unboxing and Packaging Design
Inside the carton, modular compartments create a disciplined tasting hierarchy for confections. Backbone Branding organized internal dividers to support clean portioning and guided product sampling. Each confectionery item sits within a dedicated paper sleeve printed with geometric folk motifs. Typographic styling remains clean and readable, pairing a playful custom script mark with an understated sans-serif secondary typeface. Clean baseline grids keep ingredient lists, tasting notes, and regional provenance data orderly across the base panels. Generous margins and deliberate white space let the detailed line illustrations stand out. This rigorous layout balance gives the packaging design clear functional order while preserving the tactile charm of hand-drawn art.
Physical materiality turns the concept into a durable keepsake object. Uncoated natural paperboard forms the core chassis, giving the box an earthy, pleasant texture under the fingers. Subtle blind embossing traces the tablecloth folds and fine border lace, catching ambient light on retail shelves. Soft pastel hues separate different regional sweet varieties without overwhelming the delicate ink artwork. The combination of turned wood legs and folded paper structure proves how packaging design can break flat rectangular boundaries. Backbone Branding proves that confectionery packaging design can transform casual snacking into a shared social ritual. Animator Sahak Zarbabyan and photographer Suren Manvelyan capture this warm narrative through motion and still imagery.
