Desmond Dekker and the Aces – Action! album art

Action! is the second album by Jamaican singer/songwriter Desmond Dekker (1941–2006), a pioneer in the ska, rocksteady and reggae genres. It was recorded with his backing group the Aces and released in 1968 on Beverley’s Records. The album includes the song “007 (Shanty Town)”, one of the major hits by Dekker, alongside “Israelites” (1968), “It Mek” (1969), and “You Can Get It If You Really Want” (1970).

The band name is shown in handdrawn letters, with caps that are clearly patterned after Max R. Kaufmann’s Balloon (1939). It’s unclear if the distorted and contoured letterforms for the title are based on a typeface as well.
