Brand Identity: JGroup Rebrand by Rafael Cardoso
Discover the solar brand identity for agency JGroup by Rafael Cardoso, featuring sculptural serif typography and editorial layouts.
With over two decades of strategic brand-building expertise representing beauty and wellness pioneers like Rhode, Cay Skin, Haus Labs, and UNOVE, communications agency JLPR unveiled a comprehensive rebrand to JGroup. Developed under the creative direction of Mother Sauce (Lauren and Victoria Durden) and art direction by graphic designer Rafael Cardoso, the refreshed brand identity translates the agency into a solar, high-energy visual system deeply grounded in print journalism heritage and contemporary fashion editorial standards.
Sculptural Letterform Architecture and Dynamic Editorial Framing
At the center of the identity system is a custom, organic serif monogram «J». Rather than serving merely as a static logo mark, the exaggerated curve, sweeping stem, and bold teardrop terminal of the letterform operate as an active architectural frame. Across postcards, press kits, and digital lookbooks, the counter-spaces of the monogram dynamically crop high-fashion beauty photography, creating immediate compositional tension between editorial typography and macro skin textures.
The typographic hierarchy pairs elegant high-contrast display serifs with crisp, utilitarian grotesque sans-serif for contact metadata, website navigation, and digital footers. Italic headlines reading «Get to the heart of the story» honor the agency’s storytelling origins, giving press releases, identity cards, and campaign announcements the typographic authority of an archival fashion magazine spread.
High-Saturation Solar Chromatics and Multi-Substrate Production
The chromatic matrix relies on an unapologetic, high-saturation solar palette. High-intensity vermilion orange, blossom pink, pastel mint green, and deep crimson are juxtaposed against solid black grounds and warm paper tones. This palette extends across physical stationery suites—featuring thick edge-colored cardstock—as well as screenprinted canvas tote bags, custom promotional boxes, and large-scale outdoor urban billboard campaigns.
