Shiho Karino’s MAH JONG takes that idea further with pale bamboo slats that turn the box into a functional piece of craft while still feeling connected to the traditional visual world of mahjong. The engraved rules and tile diagrams celebrate the game’s Chinese origins without leaning on decorative clichés, something often found within the mahjong world right now, and the restrained typography keeps everything contemporary, calm, and wonderfully considered. Best of all, nothing here feels disposable, from the sliding wooden construction to the permanent rule panels, making the packaging part of the ritual of gathering, playing, and eventually playing again.
